about

Released by Satatuhatta, 1st of January 2024.

This is an album of my zen buddhist shakuhachi practice. It connects the industrial world and nature, metal percussion and bamboo, brought together by human body, human spirit.

Excerpt from the liner notes;
"...my path of blowing zen is that of the Unborn Zen. It has no strict limitations, it has no schools, no intention to attain anything from it, it has no intention of becoming better or achieving some higher end; it is just sound. Accompanied by a self-made metal percussion instrument, it is the sound I want to hear existing in this world of endless separate forms, and all the way within it, lies the reality of the Unborn Mind.

I grew up in the very back end of a Finnish countryside, surrounded
by rusty, broken cars and industrial machinery my family members used for parts. From very early on, I grew to love the sound of metal and glass, wood, stones, the rural and industrial soundscapes of machines and nature entwined together during the field work.

My first experiences of making music were of screeching the sides of a broken cars with sharp sticks, breaking glass bottles underneath our shed and just existing with the sounds surrounding me. For some reason, I always felt like my silence, my presence in space, was active part of being within the entirety of it. I was there, be it in the forest or at the abandoned sauna or at the edge of a field or river, and I decided to do nothing. I did not want to stain it with myself, as it was perfect just the way it was."
